“Mineral Makeup”

Mineral makeup, how to apply it, and which mineral makeup products work best for your skin type including mineral makeup reviews. Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about mineral makeup.

How to Apply Mineral Makeup

Learning how to apply mineral makeup is simple. Many mineral makeup brands have the same technique for applying mineral makeup. The three steps on a simple putting the mineral makeup in the lid, swirling the makeup in your brush , tap off the access minerals and buffing it into your skin. . Many women of course have created and add their own tips for using this simple method heres a few tips you may want to try with the additional 3 step method.

minerals2.jpg

1. Always use a primer before applying mineral makeup. Primers create smooth canvas for makeup to lay on. They can shrink pores, and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, This can help prevent any minerals from going into fine lines, and can help stop any bismuth irritations many women get with mineral makeups. It will also hold your mineral makeup longer so you don’t have to do so many touch ups.

2. After swirl, tapping and just before buffing it into your skin, to give yourself a more even application you may want to buff the mineral into your hand first. Then can help get rid of any access minerals that still may be on the brush. Less is always more with mineral makeup.

3. Always start at either your nose or your forehead for a more natural look. Then work your way outwards. Most women need more coverage in the middle of their faces.

4. Don’t be afraid to use your mineral makeup as a concealer.

    “Women of Color Makeup Tips”

Most often women of color meaning anyone with a tan-to dark complexions end up getting bad advice in the makeup department. Being a women of color and shopping for great makeup products can be a very hard and long process but follow these tips to get a flawless complexion.

    iman.jpg

    Titiaum Dioxide

The number 1 problem with finding a good shade that matches your complexion is because of Titanium dioxide. Titanium is a great source of getting SPF in your makeup or face creams, but it can make women of color appear to have an ashy tone to their complexion. Many makeup companies put Titanium dioxide in their makeup lines which makes makeup when applied to the face appear ashy and dry in color. The best way to advoid this problem is to look for makeup lines that don’t contain Titanium dioxide.
Also make sure that before applying your makeup that you are not using moisturizers that contain Titanium dioxide because this too can make your skin appear ashy. (if the product says may contain purchase these over the ones that use it as a main ingredient)

Finding the right Foundation for your complexion

    latino.JPG

Most women of color including Indian, Hispanics and African Americans have a yellow based tone to their skin. So always choose a foundation that has a yellow hue, not every women of color is like that so make sure you choose what is best for your complexion. Many makeup lines are realizing that women either have red or yellow hues. After washing your face wait 10-15 minutes before applying any toners or moisturizers. Then look in the mirror and you should see either red or yellow tones to your complexion. Which ever color stands out more is the foundation hue you should choose. Make sure there is no Titanium dioxide. Many makeup lines now have colors for women of color but be aware some of them maybe have Titanium dioxide. I hate to say this but Iman Titanium dioxide uses in her products. This includes product such as blushes and powders as well.

A Good Foundation for Women of Color

    NARS Blush Madly

Finding the Right Powder For Women of Color

Many African Americans naturally have more oil in their skin. Which is why the age slower than lighter skin. Most often the darker your skin the more oil is being produced. Which just means you’ll receive wrinkles much later than most women. In the mean time to achieve a Matt shine free complexion choose powders that are one shade than you would normally choose. Oil has a tendency to make your complexion look darker than it actually is. So if your oil production is high choose a color one shade lighter than your complexion.

    Eyebrow Shaping Techniques

    eyebrows.jpg

    “Celebrity Eyebrows”

How to properly fill in your brows

(the pic shows a women’s before and after of her eyebrows being filled in)
Everyone loves to look at eyebrows hoping that they can achieve the same look. The question is how celebrities get their eyebrows to look so stunning? Besides the fact that they get their eyebrows arched regularly almost on a daily basis they have wonderful makeup artists who know how to fill in sparse spaces of the eyebrow correctly.

Its okay to fill in your eyebrows, according to most makeup artists almost every woman needs to fill in her brows as part of her beauty routine. One makeup artist claims that every model, every actress he works with has her eyebrows filled in. the reasons being women don’t have eyebrows like men. Women are born with sparse eyebrows with far less hair than men’s, why because men are naturally hairier. Most women also have a tendency to over tweeze their eyebrows in the process of shaping them. (Refer to my how to tweeze the proper way for more tweezing tips)

The best way to fill in eyebrows
1.First things first pick out a pencil and powder shade. In order to create perfect eyebrows you need to best supplies, this includes an angled brush, pencil, powder, and a clean mascara brush. Always use a pencil with a soft lead otherwise your eyebrows can look harsh and unnatural. Pick a color that is a shade lighter you’re your brows and a powder that matches your eyebrow hair. If you find you eyebrows are really fair go with a shade darker than your hair for your pencil. Because pencils and powders stick to the skin and not the hair you will want to shade in the skin where the hair should be.

2.Always make sure you face is clean and your eyebrows are nicely tweezed before filling them in. if they aren’t tweezed your may end up filling in hairs that need to be plucked and your eyebrows can look messy. By using the mascara want comb out your brows and look for the sparse spots that need to be filled.

3.Next grab your pencil and fill in the sparse hairs using a soft feathery stroking motion with your hand. Remember less is more. Make sure that you apply the strokes in the direction your hair grows. You want to create the appearance of hair not definite lines, so don’t pencil in the whole brow because you want your eyebrows to look natural.

4.Then you want to use your brow powder, simply dip the angle brush in the powder and brush it along the brows. It will stick to the pencil so that you can blend the colors perfectly. If you want to be sure your powder will stick you can wet the brush a little before putting it in the powder.

5.Two colors are always better than one when it comes to filling in the brow. Why because it looks more natural and examine your eyebrow… do you have one color of you hair on your natural brow? You can use a lighter powder where the brows are the thickest and a darker one for the tail ends.

    Other Eyebrow Advice
1.Rogaine can actually help your eyebrows grow faster, so if you’re concerned that you tweezed too much buy some Rogaine. You can purchase the men’s or the women’s.
2.Make sure you eyebrows are shaped by a pro at least every four weeks, you can do some clean ups in-between with a tweezers.
3.eyebrows can take a few months up to a couple of years for hair to grow back if you’ve over tweezed so always take your time and watch what you’re doing.

    Coffee, tea...or milk?

Find out which one helps with weight goals.

    By Dairy Farmers of Canada

    Coffee, tea...or milk?
People often plan their food choices for the day but they don't always think about what they're drinking. And they should.

While water is important to health, research shows that beverages supply 14 to 18% of our calories every day, says registered dietitian Lois Ferguson. "What that means is beverages can really add up and play an important part in achieving and maintaining your healthy weight."

    What are you drinking?
It's a good idea to start thinking about the different beverages you drink during the day, says Lois. Water, tea and milk are all great choices, and milk specifically can help with healthy weight goals. "In fact, studies show that women who drink milk or milk-based beverages regularly tend to be leaner than women who don't."

    How to drink more milk
"Adding more milk products to your diet is really quite easy, delicious and nutritious," says Lois.
    • Start your day with a quick, great-tasting smoothie for breakfast.
    • Always drink a glass of milk with your lunch.
    • After you work out, get in the habit of recharging your energy with a carton of chocolate milk.

Make sure you're drinking enough milk every day. For tasty ideas on how to do that, visit yourhealthyweight.ca.

    Thumbs down on fad diets

    Here’s what works...you’ll be surprised!

    By Dairy Farmers of Canada

    Thumbs down on fad diets
Scientific studies have proven time and again that fad diets don’t work. They are simply ineffective over the long term, says registered dietitian Zannat Reza. “Yes, you lose weight quickly in the beginning…but most people gain it back again. This leads to a vicious cycle called ‘the yoyo effect’ where a person loses, then gains weight back, loses it again… and so on. It’s frustrating and demoralizing.”

Fad diets are unhealthy for other reasons, too
Many fad diets leave out entire food groups – and therefore key nutrients. For example, cutting foods such as milk products means you will miss the 15 natural-source essential nutrients that milk products provide such as calcium. At the same time, over 30 studies have shown that including milk products can actually help you reach and stay at a healthy weight.

There’s no secret to healthy weight loss
Take a sensible approach to your goals and remember that small changes lead to long-term results. “Eat healthy, get regular activity and set realistic goals,” says Zannat. “You didn’t gain 20 pounds in two weeks so thinking you can lose it that quickly is unrealistic.”

    7 steps to gorgeous skin

omFind out how what you eat can affect the health and appearance of your skin.

    By Dr. Joey Shulman

Take a good long look in the mirror. What do you see? Is your skin radiant, blemish free and youthful looking? Or…do you have dark circles under your eyes, fine lines and dry, flaky skin? If you feel your skin could benefit from a little loving – there is good news!

You can improve the look and feel of your skin simply by implementing a few nutritional changes into your daily diet.

The skin is the largest organ in the body. Oftentimes, the state of your skin is an indication of what is going on inside. Improving overall digestion, hydrating your body and flooding your system with high-antioxidant foods can transform the way your skin appears. In order to take the first step toward youthful and vibrant-looking skin, simply implement the following natural tips outlined below.

    Supplement with fish oils
Cold-water fish such as salmon and tuna are excellent sources of the omega-3 oils necessary for beautiful-looking skin. Unfortunately, our fish sources are becoming more and more toxic due to pollution and poor farming methods (e.g., mercury in tuna and PCB pollutants in farmed salmon). In addition to eating wild salmon, I highly recommend supplementing with distilled fish oil daily (approximately two grams per day). When purchasing a fish oil, select one that has been distilled, is enteric coated and is made from smaller fish such as anchovies and sardines. The smaller the fish, the shorter the lifespan and thus the less accumulation of toxicity.

    Opt for vitamin E–rich foods
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that has been shown to prevent cell damage from free radicals and protect your skin against ultraviolet light. The best way to get vitamin E is from foods. Sunflower seeds, almonds, mustard greens, turnip greens, chard and spinach are excellent sources of vitamin E. Sprinkle sunflower seeds over a salad or in a stir-fry for a delicious crunch and a vitamin E boost. When vitamin E oil is applied topically to the skin, it has also been shown to prevent skin damage from the sun.

    Drink water with natural lemon
In addition to helping you to lose weight and improve energy, drinking water will hydrate the skin and reduce the signs of aging. Fresh lemon in your water acts as a natural astringent in the body and helps improve overall health – and your skin.

    Sprinkle your berries
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture analyses, blueberries have 40 per cent more antioxidant capacity than strawberries. Blueberries are high in vitamin C and can help strengthen collagen formation, thereby reducing the signs of aging. This delicious berry has also been shown to have other health benefits such as improving eyesight and circulation, acting as a natural diuretic, enhancing blood flow and helping to alleviate symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. Add blueberries to your morning breakfast or to a shake or eat them on their own as a healthy snack.

    Avoid eating inflammatory foods
Eating inflammatory foods such as full-fat meats, cheeses and refined flours can show up in your face in the form of breakouts, under-eye bags, puffiness and red patches. In order to reduce these effects naturally, focus on anti-inflammatory foods such as nuts (walnuts, almonds), organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins.

    Eat vitamin C–rich foods
Vitamin C is involved in collagen production and protects cells from free-radical damage. It's important to replenish your vitamin C stores on a daily basis by eating vitamin C–rich foods such as peppers, broccoli, oranges, lemons, strawberries, papaya, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts and mustard greens.

Eat foods high in beta carotene
Beta carotene is another critical antioxidant that is beneficial for healthy skin, repair of tissues and protection against sun damage. Beta carotene is converted into vitamin A in the body and is founds in foods such as sweet potatoes, pumpkins, carrots, mangoes and apricots.

    Take-home point:
Your skin is the best reflection of your inner health and wellness. Instead of slathering expensive lotions and creams all over your skin in an attempt to reduce the signs of aging, opt for an internal cleanse with the simple and natural steps outlined above. Before you know it, people will be asking you what products you use because your skin looks so radiant. Bon appetit!

Omega-3 Foods May Lower Eye Disease Risk

(HealthDay News) -- Consuming fish and other foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of severe vision loss in elderly people.

Australian researchers reviewed nine published studies that included a total of 88,974 participants, including 3,203 people with AMD. The combined findings from the studies suggest that a high dietary intake of omega-3 fatty acids is associated with a 38 percent reduced risk of late (advanced) AMD, and that eating fish twice a week is associated with a reduced risk of both early and late AMD.

The study was published in the June issue of the journal Archives of Ophthalmology.

The University of Melbourne researchers noted that long-chain omega-3 fatty acids form an integral part of the layer of nerve cells in the retina. Outer cells of the retina are continually shed and regenerated. Because of this, deficiencies in omega-3 fatty acids may cause AMD.

"A diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids and fish, as a proxy for long-chain omega-3 fatty acid intake, has therefore been hypothesized as a means to prevent AMD," the researchers wrote.

While they did find an association between omega-3 fatty acid intake and reduced risk of AMD, they didn't go so far as to recommend regular consumption of omega-3 fatty acids to ward off AMD.

"Although this meta-analysis suggests that consumption of fish and food rich in omega-3 fatty acids may be associated with a lower risk of AMD, there is insufficient evidence from the current literature, with few prospective studies and no randomized clinical trials, to support their routine consumption for AMD," the researchers concluded.

One in 10 had "silent strokes": study

By Julie Steenhuysen - Fri Jun 27, 2:14 AM PDT

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Routine brain scans in a group of middle-aged people showed that 10 percent of them had suffered a stroke without knowing it, raising their risk for further strokes and memory loss, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.

People with atrial fibrillation, the most common type of irregular heart beat in people over 65, had more than twice the rate of these silent strokes, they said.

Silent cerebral infarctions or SCIs are brain injuries caused by a blood clot that interrupts blood flow to the brain.

"The findings reinforce the need for early detection and treatment of cardiovascular risk factors in midlife," Dr. Sudha Seshadri of Boston University School of Medicine and colleagues wrote in the journal Stroke.

"This is especially true since SCIs have been associated with an increased risk of incident stroke and cognitive impairment," they wrote.

The researchers based their findings on routine magnetic resonance imaging or MRI scans from about 2,000 people with an average age of 62.

They were the children of participants in the long-running Framingham study -- a study of the health and habits of nearly an entire town in Massachusetts. People in this so-called Framingham Offspring Study had medical exams every four to eight years.

Brain scans of these people found that 10.7 percent had a stroke even though they showed no stroke symptoms. Of these, 84 percent had only a single lesion in the brain.

    RISK PROFILE

The researchers then looked back to their medical records to see if these people had a risk profile that might predict a stroke.

What they found was that atrial fibrillation more than doubled the risk of silent stroke. In atrial fibrillation, the heart's two upper chambers do not pump effectively enough to empty properly, leaving blood to pool and raising the risk of blood clots.

Three percent to 5 percent of people over 65 have this problem.

The study could not determine whether treating atrial fibrillation would reduce the risk of silent stroke, the researchers said.

Other factors that increased the risk of silent stroke included high levels of blood homocysteine, a sulfur-containing amino acid found in the blood; carotid artery disease; high blood pressure and especially high systolic blood pressure -- the top number in the blood pressure reading.

About two-thirds of people over the age of 65 have high blood pressure, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. High blood pressure has long been implicated as a risk factor for silent strokes.

"Although previous studies have also reported a significant association of hypertension and tHcy (total homocysteine), ours is the first study to our knowledge to demonstrate a significant relationship between atrial fibrillation and SCI," the researchers wrote.

Warning signs of a stroke include changes in balance, slurred speech or a droopy face, weakness in one side, partial vision loss and severe headache, according to the American Stroke Association.

Stroke is the No. 3 cause of death in the United States, behind heart disease and cancer.

    Best Eye Makeup Removers

Our eyes area is one of the most delicate ones and we must pay considerable attention to it. Therefore each time we start cleansing, first step is removing eye makeup, with circular movement, starting from the inside corner toward the outside corner of the eye. It is preferable for the eye to close while doing that, by holding the lower lid with your pointing finger and removing the mascara by up and down movement. Once that operation ready, the direction reverses performing lower lid make up removal. Do not forget to hydrate your eyes and lips during the holidays.

Taking care of your face is an activity of major importance for all of us. We sometimes neglect the most sensitive parts – lips and eyes. These two areas of the face are the first ones noticed, and we forget to use adequate products for their protection.

The outcome could be negative, especially when cold weather gets extreme. That is the main reason for which we should always use appropriate products, especially designed to care for our lips and eyes.

We recommend make up removing products designed starting from the jojoba oil, apricot kernel oil, which can hydrate your lips properly, giving your skin and your lips smoothness and firm look and consistence at the same time.

The products destined for waterproof resistant make up and deep cleanse of the area around the eyes and lips should contain jojoba oil and apricot kernel oil, in order to hydrate the skin, get fast into your skin, and maintain it firm. This type of products also fight irritations they prevent dehydration and regenerate the protection layer of the skin on which you used make up. It totally removes waterproof makeup, and does not cause irritation to your eyes. In the evenings and in the mornings, put a thin layer of that special make up remover on your face and massage it for half a minute. Then, with the help of a cotton disk, remove the waterproof products, insisting around the eyes and lips.

Never use baby oil as a make up remover, because, although that oil makes wonders for babies’ skin, it does not match with the thin sensitive area around the eyes. It leaves behind a layer that will irritate your eyes. Use makeup removers for your face and eye zone.

This is the way to remove it:

During the day, we feel good about our mascara lasting so well, but in the evening, when we remove it, we want if off the eyes as soon as possible.

    1. For removing eye shadow, use special eye make up remover, and apply it delicately with circular moves.
    2. The excess of make up remover must be cleaned with a cotton disk – starting from the inside corner towards the outside corner, without applying any pressure on it.
    3. Mascara also removes with a cotton disk and a bit of make up remover. Just close your eyes and wipe your lids starting up.
    4. With make up remover you can also clean the inferior margin and the inside corner
    5. In the end, tap the whole face with a cosmetic tissue.

However, applying cosmetics on a daily basis may not be a good idea as too much of it could prove harmful for the skin. But the argument in its favor says that daily makeup helps the women feel more confident.

    Daily Makeup Tips
    • Always remember that while using the cosmetics on a daily basis you should use only quality products.
    • Therefore choosing the cosmetics is an important step as it is directly related to the skin care and health.
    • For the purpose of daily makeup usually powder cosmetics are preferred because they not only keep the shine under control but also contain less preservatives and skin irritants as compared to the liquid ones.
    • In case you cannot avoid use of the liquid foundation then you should opt for one, which has a silicone base because the silicone base does not cause acne.
    • If you apply makeup daily then you also need to remove it daily and for this you may need to use the makeup remover.
    • But remember that using makeup remover to clean out waterproof cosmetics also wipes out the protective layer of sebum from the skin, therefore you should use waterproof cosmetics only occasionally and not on routine basis.
    • You should never use the cosmetics that have crossed their expiry dates because it could be extremely harmful.
    • You should also wash and clean the makeup brushes and sponges regularly.
    • Normal life span of the cosmetics
      - Mascaras: about 3 to 4 months
      - Foundations: last for 1 year
      - Lipsticks: last for 1 year
      - Powder: last for about 2 years
      - Eye shadows: last for about 2 years.
For the purpose of daily makeup Pencil eyeliner and eyebrow pencils that are wax based should be preferred because they can be cleaned off easily by using water only.
    • For the daily makeup light earth tones are preferable as they not only give a natural look but also are less likely to cause skin irritation than the darker colors.
    • You should use a broad-spectrum sunscreen. The sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor 15 or higher and with ingredients such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is very effective in avoiding the harmful effects of UVA rays.
    • However, for the daily use cosmetics with fewer ingredients are much safer therefore you should opt for the cosmetics that contain not more than 10 ingredients.
    • Though nail polishes are very important for giving a beautiful look to your hands but they are not for daily use.
    • For a quick pedicure you should scrape the dead skin off the soles of your feet after shower using an emery board.
    • You should rub them over with lotion or olive oil or petroleum jelly and push back the cuticles of your toenails.
    • You can wear socks all the time to maintain them.
    • For a quick manicure you can follow the similar procedure.
    • You can maintain them by wearing gloves at night.

Naomi Campbell cut from Nelson Mandela's birthday concert line up

Showing off her new man yesterday was Naomi Campbell who attended celebrations for Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday, despite being struck from his concert line up list.

According to news reports, the troubled supermodel was dropped from appearing as a presenter for star-studded bash due to her latest run-in with the law.

"The man himself intervened and she was pulled off the list. He was disappointed with her recent arrest," a source said.

Nevertheless, Noames put on a smile and fronted up to the lavish party held in Hyde Park. She donned a black chiffon, almost see-through gown, and brought along her new beau, Marcus Elias.

Last week, Campbell was ordered to complete 200 hours worth of community service, as punishment for her meltdown at Heathrow airport. From the courtroom, she flew straight to Milan where she took to the catwalk in a rare appearance for the Dolce & Gabbana menswear show.

"People were disappointed by what happened - in the past she had spoken to Mandela about her anger - notwithstanding the fact that she was wearing the [Mandela's charity] baseball cap when she was arrested. It's not the behaviour of a charity ambassador," the source added.

Other high profile guests to attend the celebrations yesterday included Oprah Winfrey, Gordon Brown, Bill Clinton, Elton John, Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Uma Thurman, and Bob Geldof.

Lily Cole, Marc Jacobs and Claudia Schiffer at the Louis Vuitton Art Walk party

Marc Jacobs was chaperoned by Claudia Schiffer last night at the Louis Vuitton Art Walk party at London's Serpentine gallery. Schiffer looked effortlessly chic in a draped and pleated dress accessorised with a feather brooch. Lily Cole also turned up, in a gymslip chic outfit of Mary-Jane's and pop socks. I love the layering of her shirt dress with the textured petticoat underneath.

    “Fashionable Native American Jewelry”

Native American Jewelry. Native American jewelry occupies a distinct place in the world of jewelry. We’re all familiar with the beautiful silver and turquoise rings and necklaces, with their often ornate and intricate designs. Perhaps not so many of us are aware of the rich history, symbolism and traditions inherent in Native American jewelry, practiced to this day by Native artisans.

Most of the Native American jewelry we find on the market today comes from the American southwest, the predominant source of turquoise in what is now the United States.

    native-american-jewelry-2.jpg

Archaeologists have unearthed turquoise used in necklaces and earrings dating back to about 200 B.C. Although other tribes, such as the Apache and Pueblo were indigenous prior to the Navajo, it was mainly the Navajo who developed the art of Native American jewelry.

The Spanish and the Pueblo tribe were influential in Navajo designs. The ornate and intricate Moorish patterns and designs were incorporated into elaborate Navajo interpretations. Spanish designs of the pomegranate blossom were eagerly interpreted by the Navajo, eventually resulting in the squash blossom necklace.

The Navajo valued shapes and designs of the Spanish-Moorish influence, but only for the visual aspect. The original meanings of the Moorish crescent and pomegranate blossom had no significance in the resulting Navajo jewelry.

It was not until around 1850 that silver smithing entered the venue of Native American jewelry. Mexican silversmiths traded silver and techniques with the Navajo and Pueblo. Mexican silver coins became the favored source of silver in the making of jewelry items. New types and styles of jewelry were devised, including rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and hair ornaments. The famous concho belts were another result of the exchange between cultures.

Soon, the crafting of Native American jewelry spread across the southwest. The Zuni and Hopi tribes developed distinctive slants on their new knowledge. The Zuni were particularly skilled in working gems and stones, using silver in their designs in ways the Navajo and Pueblo did not.

The Hopi also used their symbols and designs to produce a genre that was distinctive to their culture, incorporating pottery designs of birds, animals and tribal symbols dating to the 15th century.

For some time, turquoise was the most widely-used stone in all Native American jewelry, probably due to the fact that it was plentiful in the southwest and the symbolism of the stone to each tribe. All the tribes attributed different meanings and powers to turquoise, but was revered by all.

Eventually, gold work was integrated into the store of materials used in the making of Native American jewelry. Other non-traditional materials, especially stones such as coral and gaspeite and mother-of-pearl soon became popular additions to the lapidaries work box.

Today, Native American jewelry as an art transcends individual tribes, making identification of a piece as Navajo or Hopi difficult. Tribal artists integrate symbols, designs and techniques into a synthesis of many tribes, becoming individual and masterful works of art, commonly known as Native American jewelry.

    Nina Ricci

A melancholy lyricism often wafts through Olivier Theyskens work. One could feel it last season, despite the pale palette and ample athletic references in his lovely debut at Nina Ricci. The mood became more pronounced this time out in a breathtaking collection that felt both ethereal and consummately modern.

In a season of elaborate staging, Theyskens cut a window in the back of his tent in the Tuilleries Gardens, letting nature provide his set. This proved particularly apropos because he envisioned his girls as wood nymphs coming home from a ball. But, he said, “The ball is a rave, a rave in nature.”

Whatever event specifics Theyskens’ imaginary party planner intended, they allowed for an aura of gentle dishevelment, disorientation even, as the girls wandered in from the greenery outside between two smooth faux-concrete walls. They might have been tired from the evening’s revelry; they might have been under the influence of something more potent than the light of the silvery moon. Their hair was plastered down on top under wreaths of branches and feathers, their clothes, dark washes of apparently random arrangements that may have gotten disassembled and reassembled somewhat askew as the party roared on, pillbox hats, face veils and boas heightening the eccentricity.

It all had an intriguing carelessness which Theyskens kept from getting too messy — muted washed silk dresses that hung or clung this way or that; big jackets split in back with tulip openings; skinny pants and the occasional edgy T-shirt for a subversive hint of rock ’n’ roll, a full-on ballgown under the warmth of a beaten-up blanket. Yet despite the haphazard tone, the constructions were astonishing, especially evident for evening — a simple white silk number with black banding that fell into a deep collar over elaborate layers in back; an exquisitely pleated silver metallic bustier.

It all had a rich, earthy resonance and a shameless romance seldom found in the upper echelons of fashion. Theyskens has brought something very special to those ranks, and Nina Ricci is one lucky maison to have him in residence.

    5 Healthiest Anti-Aging Snacks

Snacking often gets a bad rap, but if you make intelligent choices about what you eat, you can actually benefit your health and longevity. Read on to find out how!

    Why Snacks?

Most of us are used to eating three times a day, but it is much healthier to eat smaller meals more frequently -f ive small meals a day, for instance. Eating in this way delivers a steady stream of nutrients, blood sugar, and energy to your body throughout the day and is also much less taxing on the digestive and metabolic systems.

And when you eat more small meals throughout the day, you will most likely avoid the pitfalls of overindulging at your next meal and may actually consume fewer total calories for the day.

Keep healthy "grab-and-go" snacks on hand all the time to avoid the tempting lure of high-calorie snacks. Here are my top five snack choices:

    1. Nuts and Seeds Keep You Young
Healthy and appetizing, nuts and seeds are absolutely the best snack of the bunch. Helping yourself to a handful of nuts and seeds every day can improve circulation and muscle tone.

And nuts and seeds are especially full of arginine, an amino acid that helps to combat heart disease, impotence, infertility, and high blood pressure, and it also facilitates the healing process. Additionally, arginine can stimulate the pituitary gland at the base of the brain.

The pituitary releases growth hormones, which begin to decline quickly in humans after age 35. This means that after 35, your hormones start to plunge and you experience some aging symptoms. The skin loses elasticity, the muscle loses mass and strength, the lean body tissue decreases, fertility and virility decrease, and other signs of aging start to set in.

Many nuts and seeds are rich sources of vitamin E, lignants and omega-3 fatty acids, which protect you from heart disease and also from the ravages of aging.

Almonds, pine nuts, sesame seeds, Brazil nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, peanuts, and pistachios: mix them in any combination and enjoy! Keep in mind that there are more nutrients in the raw form than roasted. Make sure that the nuts and seeds are fresh and not old and rancid.

    2. An Apple a Day for Heart Health
There are many reasons to eat an apple - or two or three - every day. One study discovered that subjects who ate five apples or more a week had a healthier lung function than those who ate no apples.

And scientists have confirmed that apples also contribute to a healthy heart. Thanks to the fruit's rich pectin content, eating two to three apples per day leads to decreased cholesterol levels. Pectin also helps prevent colon cancer, one of the top causes of death in adults over age sixty.

    3. Bring On the Berries
In season again, berries are bursting with antioxidants. The enticing red, purple, and blue skins of berries contain bioflavonoids, antioxidant compounds that reduce free radical damage.

These flavonoids are more potent antioxidants than vitamins C and E, and they also help to reduce inflammation - more effectively even than aspirin!

    • Blueberries are your best pick because not only do they have the highest level of antioxidant activity, but they also possess powerful neuroprotective properties that shield brain cells from damage , helping to slow down the age-related onset of memory loss, Alzheimer's, and senility.

    • Cherries also contain these beneficial anthocyanin compounds, which stimulate your pancreas to produce insulin. In fact, Chinese researchers have observed that cherries help keep diabetics healthy. These compounds also protect you against cancer, arthritis, and heart disease because they lower cholesterol.

    4. Avocado: Packed with Nutrients
Among the many antioxidant nutrients, glutathione is known as the "master antioxidant." This naturally occurring compound, found in avocados (as well as asparagus, walnuts, and fish), is made up of the three amino acids glycine, glutamic acid, and cysteine. Glutathione regulates immune cells, protects against cancer, and assists in detoxifying.

A deficiency in glutathione can play a part in diabetes, liver disease, heart disease, low sperm count, and premature aging. Avocados are also a source of L-cysteine, which helps protect your body from the harmful effects of pollution, chemicals, radiation, alcohol, and smoke. L-cysteine may also help boost immunity, protect you from heart disease, and build muscle. It is also useful for combating inflammation and encouraging healthy hair and nail growth.

Pair your avocado with whole-grain crackers or whole-grain crisp breads for a fiber-rich tasty treat.

    5. Apricots for Anti-Aging
One of the staple foods of the famously long-lived centenarians in the Hunza valley of the Himalayas is the apricot. Research has discovered that apricots have the highest levels and widest variety of carotenoids of any food.

Carotenoids are antioxidants that help prevent heart disease, reduce "bad cholesterol" levels, and protect against cancer.

I hope you find the ways to nourish your body with healthy snacks! I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!

Hairstyle Photos - - Best & Worst Haircuts for Long Face Shapes

    By Julyne Derrick, About.com

What works for your long face type? Several looks work for you. If you have straight hair, you can create more width with bangs. Chin-length bobs and cuts are also ideal for you because they create the illusion of width. Curls & waves also add width, but avoid short layers that add volume on top. Bangs make your face appear shorter because they cover up a particularly large forehead. Shy away from blunt bangs & go for sideswept bangs like Hilary Duff (see picture).

Avoid: Stay away from extremely long or short cuts. These elongate your face.

Layered Cuts Work Great for Long Face Shapes

The layering makes a thin, long face appear wider.

The Layered Look - - Perfect for Long Face Types

Layers work well -- again, because they give that illusion of a wider face. If you like long hair, go for it. Just don't go TOO long (you'll see what I mean in a minute).

Longer Bob - - Great for Thick, Straight Hair

The whole cut makes any face appear fuller.

Brown, Sexy Bob - - A Great Haircut for Long Faces

Any bob that comes to your chin is perfect for a long face.

Photo Gallery - - Bad Haircuts for Long Face Shapes

You don't want to let your hair grow too long if you have a long face shape. Why? It makes your long face look EXTRA long.

Best Haircuts for Long Faces - - Short is Good, but Go 'Good Short'

Short hair on a long face works well because it allows the eyes to pop & takes attention away from hair length. However, you want to avoid a fluffy top which, like long hair, just adds more length to your whole appearance. Instead, focus on a short look with width, like this great cut.

Don't Want to Sacrifice Length? Add Width With Curls

Here's a favorite trick of mine. If you love long locks, but have a long face, then curl your hair. The body adds width. Spritz hair with setting spray & wind sections of hair around the barrel of a medium-sized curling iron.

Want to Keep the Length? Easy. Just Add Bangs

This layered bob works great for a long face type.

High fat level found in takeaways

    Curry
High fat levels were found in curry

Campaigners have called for better labels on takeaway food after revealing massive levels of fat, salt and sugar in some of the UK's favourite dishes.

Which? magazine revealed that a woman eating a portion of curry could be consuming more than a whole day's recommended saturated fat intake.

One firm included incorrect nutritional information, claimed the testers.

The Food Standards Agency plans to work with restaurants and takeaways to reduce fat and salt levels.

Most people realise that fast food is not the healthiest option, but the extent of this is not always clear.

Takeaways are not legally obliged to give the nutritional content of their food.

Which? tested Indian and Chinese foods, and pizza from independent takeaways and franchises.

    See table of nutrients

They found that Indian foods were generally high in fat and Chinese food could be high in sugar - one portion contained the equivalent of 19 teaspoons.

The average calorie content of these takeaways was high - 1,338 for Indian food and 1,436 for a similar-sized Chinese takeaway.

There were 23.6g of saturated fat in the Indian meal - the daily recommended intake is 20g for women and 30g for men.

Pizzas could be a healthier option, with half of a medium pizza weighing in at between 836 and 929 calories.

Fat was again high, with a thin crust pepperoni pizza containing 22.5g of saturated fats.

Neil Fowler, the editor of Which?, said: "We would like people to be aware of just how much of their daily food intake comes in just one meal - a day's worth of fat or sugar shouldn't be ignored.

"Unlike at the supermarket, it's almost impossible to work out the nutritional content of a takeaway. Ultimately we want consumers to have much clearer information about fat, sugar and salt levels."

    Labelling problem

He said that Domino's Pizza and Pizza Hut were unusual in that they did try to offer nutritional information - but Which? found that the Domino's information was incorrect.

Four cheese and tomato pizzas tested were supposed to contain a total of 100g of fats, both saturated and unsaturated, but actually had more than 150g on average.

A spokesman for Domino's said that it was concerned about the finding. "We regularly monitor pizza-making in all of our stores and we are very surprised to see variances of the size that Which? has reported.

"We are currently conducting a thorough review to ensure that our customers have accurate nutritional data."

The Food Standards Agency has worked with supermarkets to improve the nutritional labelling of its food, and a spokesman said the next step was big catering firms, then High Street restaurants.

A spokesman said: "We need to find an approach to suit what is a very diverse sector and which will provide their customers with a simple and effective way for them to understand what is in their food, and which are the healthier options."

Fashion : Sex and the City Style

'Sex and the City' Looks for Less
    by Elayne Fluker

Are you a Miranda? A Samantha? Maybe a Charlotte? We'd all love to walk just one day in Carrie's shoes! Whatever your SATC score, you have to admit that the fashion—better known as the sixth character of the irresistible Sex and the City series (New York City has frequently been called the fifth)—is one of the most intriguing parts of the show. And the big-screen version is no exception. Here, we check out some of Carrie's best looks from Sex and the City: The Movie and, most importantly, tell you how to steal a few takes for your spring wardrobe.

    Color Me Beautiful
This spring, it's all about hue! And we're talking purest form. So, instead of tangerine, opt for orange; instead of crimson, go for red. Here, Carrie looks gorgeous in green, with the perfect balance of femininity (florals) and edge (a studded belt). Get the look with this flirty dress from Miu Miu and Mossimo belt from Target.

    Dress, $390 at Net-a-porter.com
    Belt, $19.99 at Target.com

    White On
Sport the fairest shade with confidence as you enjoy the sunny spring days. In this look, Carrie takes flower power to the next level, but it's her shimmery white dress paired with unexpected black sandals that really get our attention. Get the street-chic look with this sweet, mock neck, metallic number from Forever 21 and Jeffrey Campbell gladiator-inspired sandals from Urban Outfitters.

    Dress, $19.80 at Forever21.com
    Sandals, $98 at UrbanOutfitters.com

    Day Shift
In this scene, Carrie keeps it simple in a sheath that may be forgettable if not for the pop of bright pink. Try Isaac Mizrahi's sateen version from Target and make the studded Mossimo belt from slide 2 pull double duty.

    $34.99 at Target.com

    Well Suited
Store away your I-mean-business blazer this season, and try adding a vest over a brightly colored button-down. This fitted option from Guess has a halter back, making the look—when paired with crisp white wide-legs—a fresh take coming and going.

    Pants, $69.99 at Guess.com
    Vest, $59 at Guess.com

    Pretty in Pink
Unless you're on the runway (or you're Carrie Bradshaw!), don't go for the full effect of SJP's Zac Posen ensemble. Leave the blue accouterment, but embrace the shimmering pink dress and dainty white shoes, which shows that you're definitely more sugar than spice this season.

    Dress, $27.80 at Forever21.com
    Shoes, $295 at BCBG.com

    Top Choice
A high-waisted belt elegantly pulls together this Twelve by Twelve tie-front coat. The flattering silhouette makes it suitable for most shapes, and the linen-and-silk blend makes it wearable all season. Throw it on with your favorite pair of stilettos, and strut!

    $69 at Forever21.com

    In A Clutch

Downsizing is never easy, but bags with straps are so last season. When you're out and about, go for an oversized clutch with an ombre pattern similar to Carrie's, like this one from Chinese Laundry. Sure, it'll only hold your cash, cell, and maybe a lip gloss or two, but you'll look fabulous!
